When it comes to wearing wigs, whether as an expert or a beginner, a proper fit is essential. Wig caps are designed in different sizes, petite, average, and large, based on the shape and size of your head. To determine your ideal size, you will need to take three main measurements. First is the circumference of your head, second is the ear-to-ear measurement, and lastly is the measurement from your hairline to the nape of your neck.
A petite size has a circumference of approximately 20 to 21 inches, an average size fits 21 to 22.5 inches, and a large size is for those with a circumference of over 22.5 inches. Beyond size, cap construction plays a major role in comfort and realism. Many wigs today feature open-wefted caps for increased breathability. It helps to keep your scalp cool throughout the day.
Other Features
Adjustable tabs at the nape help tighten or loosen the fit slightly, giving you a snug fit. In addition, velvet ear tabs give a soft support around the sides and help keep the wig in place with no irritation. Even if you wear glasses. Some wigs offer monofilament tops, which create a natural scalp look and allow multi-directional parting. Others include lace front, known as smartlace or sheer lace. It mimics a realistic hairline and allows you to style away from the face.
Taking the time to measure properly and understanding these features can help your wig look its best 24/7 with no fuss.
