Short Hair vs. Long Hair: Which Looks Better?

in May 29, 2018

Would you look better with short hair or long hair?

For years, the #1 question women have been asking us is whether we think short hair wigs or long hair wigs look better.

And while we don’t want to start a short hair vs. long hair fight on the internet (we see enough arguments on Facebook these days, thank you very much), we decided that it is finally time for us to weigh in on the oldest debate in hair.

We did a little research and here’s what we found:

- Some people think that the best hair length is whichever is most popular at the time, like the pin-straight styles of the early 2000s or the textured lobs of the late 2010s.
- Other people think that the best length is the one that they’ve always worn. After all, if you’ve found a length that makes you feel confident and beautiful, why would you risk trying something you aren’t sure you’d like?
- Even more people would say that a woman’s hair length should be dependent on her face shape and that women with certain types of faces shouldn’t have certain haircuts.

So, which length do we think is superior?

After some careful analysis, we’ve decided that we just can’t pick one length as the best!

At Ultimate Looks, we love all hairstyles: bobs, pixies, long layers, EVERYTHING. We love that our wigs let us play with different styles and experiment with different looks.

But just because we love changing up our look, that doesn’t mean we don’t recognize that both lengths have different pros and cons.

After you read the list, let us know which length YOU think is the best down below!

Long Hair Wigs

Long Hair Wigs

PROS

CONS

Updos for Days French twists or chignons for fancy events. Ponytails or side braids when you want to get your hair up off your neck. The longer your hair, the more styling options you have.

X Sweat Let’s be honest, other than beachy waves, there’s not much that’s good about having long hair during the summer. If it’s down your neck, it’s like wearing a wool scarf in the desert. If it’s up in bun or ponytail, it feels like you’re wearing a heating pad on your head. Not fun, friends.

✔ Letting your hair down (literally) There’s just something about a long, wavy hair look that makes us feel oh-so-sexy, even if we’re just pairing the hairstyle with jeans and a white t-shirt. Unfortunately, no matter how many times we shake out or pixie cuts and bobs, the feeling just isn’t the same.

X That Tickly Feeling You know, THAT feeling. The feeling when you know there’s definitely a long stray hair somewhere on the back of your arm, but you can’t find it, so you just keep swatting at your back like a crazy person.

✔  Dating Prospects In the age of internet dating, first impressions are everything. And while we here at Ultimate Looks believe that women look just as sexy with short hair wigs as they do with long hair wigs, OKCupid’s 2016 dating roundup found that men are significantly more likely to initiate a connection with a woman who has long hair in her photograph.

X Shedding No matter if you have natural hair or wear a wig, long hair is much more noticeable when it sheds. Just ask your shower drain next time it gets clogged.
✔ Feeling Feminine People experiencing hair loss often describe feeling like they’ve lost a part of themselves along with their hair. Long hair is associated with femininity, so once it’s gone, it can be harder to tap into that part of ourselves. If you’re going through hair loss, a long hair wig can go a long way towards helping you feel like you again.

 PROS

CONS

✔ Neck Breezes There’s a reason your mom used to give you a haircut every year after the school year ended. Short styles help you stay cool when it’s hot out. For the same reason, short hair wigs are a great option for people going through a chemotherapy regimen.

X Lack of Versatility When your hair is very short, there’s often not much you can do to change up the look. If you like having the flexibility to throw your hair back in a ponytail every now and again, a shorter style might just not be for you.

✔ Ready-to-Wear Even with a synthetic wig that has style-memory, long hair wigs require at least a bit of styling each time you put them on (and a lot more wig care products to maintain them). With short hair wigs, on the other hand, you can shake them out, attach them, and walk out your door.

X Compatibility Long hair looks good on almost everyone. Short hair, just like bangs or bright red lipstick, doesn’t. If you have a very round or long face, a short style can accentuate those features more than you would like.

✔ Professionalism Long hair may take the cake on dating apps, but shorter styles have a distinct advantage in the boardroom. According to this article by the Huffington Post, women with short hair are perceived as more professional and competent in the workplace.

X Dating Prospects It’s not something we agree with, but studies do show that most men say they would prefer to date a woman with long hair, and that women with longer hair get more matches on dating apps. That said, a man who doesn’t think you look just as beautiful with short hair as you do with long hair isn’t worth your time, ladies.
✔ Drying Time Ask any stylist who’s ever given a blowout: the shorter the hair, the quicker the drying time. When you wear wigs, it’s super important to let the hair dry completely after you wash them before you put them back on, and that can take more than a day with some longer styles.
